Fundraising and support planning addresses how others may participate in, encourage, or support the Appalachian Trail 2030 project.
This page is still in development. Any public fundraising connected to a charity will be handled carefully and only after the rules, permissions, and proper process are confirmed.
Support Goals
The purpose of support is not simply to fund a hike.
The larger goal is to build community around the journey, encourage others facing difficult challenges, and create opportunities for generosity connected to something meaningful.
Possible Support Categories
Support may eventually include:
- Encouragement and comments
- Gear contributions
- Trail logistics support
- Shuttle or transportation help
- Trail magic
- Sponsoring miles
- Sponsoring landmarks
- Donations to a veteran-related charity
- Sharing the project with others
Sponsor a Mile Concept
One future idea is to allow supporters to sponsor specific miles of the Appalachian Trail.
A sponsored mile could include:
- A supporter’s name
- A short message
- A dedication
- A donation connected to that mile
- A future trail update when that mile is reached
Sponsored Landmarks
Well-known landmarks may eventually have separate sponsorship opportunities.
Examples may include:
- Mount Katahdin
- Springer Mountain
- McAfee Knob
- Harpers Ferry
- The White Mountains
- Mahoosuc Notch
- Kinsman Mountain
- Grayson Highlands
- Roan Highlands
Charity Connection
One goal is to connect the hike to support for a veteran-related charity.
Before anything is presented publicly as an official charity campaign, the proper rules, permissions, and donation process will be confirmed.
Gear Support
Gear support may include donated, loaned, or discounted items that help with training, shakedown hikes, or the eventual thru-hike.
All gear must be tested before the trail.
Trail Support
Trail support may eventually include:
- Shuttle assistance
- Local trail knowledge
- Lodging support
- Food drops
- Trail magic
- Encouragement from friends, family, and followers
Support Notes
